¿Agroecología en las ciudades? Un mapeo de experiencias agroecológicas en el área urbana y periurbana de la ciudad de San Luis Potosí
Agroecology is an approach to counter corporate dominance of our food, building sustainable and equitable food systems. Its academic impetus and analysis have been focused on rural territories, neglecting urban and peri-urban areas. Growing urbanization will negatively affect agricultural production spaces around cities through pollution, water scarcity, and gentrification, necessitating a shift of attention towards projects grounded in agroecological values. This work presents results from a qualitative mapping of 12 agroecological experiences in the urban and peri-urban area of San Luis Potosí. We document the motivations and challenges faced for their development and continuity, highlighting the availability of land, social ignorance, and the absence of state policies supporting agricultural production in cities, as these projects do not meet the requirements to be integrated into the federal policy of agroecological transition. The work presents a review of theoretical debates on urban agroecology, showing that it can be a field of knowledge and practices that increases citizens' involvement in the problems of the food system.
