Análisis de la Simulación Numérica de una Turbina de Pequeña Escala para Tuberías de Agua Variando el Número de Álabes

The utilization of hydraulic energy in piping systems represents an efficient and sustainable alternative for generating electricity on a small scale. In this context, Savonius-type turbines are an option for energy generation in water distribution network pipes, as they convert the kinetic energy of water into mechanical or electrical energy. They are ideal for confined spaces and communities with limited resources. In this study, the effect of the number of blades on flow velocity was simulated using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) under steady-state conditions, varying from 2 to 12 blades. The results indicate that turbines with fewer blades achieve higher maximum fluid velocities but generate extensive areas of negative velocities, potentially reducing their efficiency. The six-blade turbine demonstrated an optimal balance between positive and negative axial velocities, standing out as the most potentially efficient configuration. These findings contribute to the design of more effective turbines for specific applications
