Antibiotic Screening

Antibiotic screening plays a large role in not only the identification but the evaluation of antimicrobial producing bacteria that can help fight the threat of antibiotic resistant pathogens. As time goes on, bacteria are constantly developing while new resistant strains are emerging leading to various health crises for the human population. The study presented will show the process through which antimicrobial producing bacteria are located, isolated, and characterized. Using the serial dilution methods, individual colonies of bacteria were grown to then be tested against safe ESKAPEs to observe for growth inhibition which would show the presence of antimicrobial producing bacteria. The results showed a candidate isolated from the soil was found to inhibit the safe ESKAPE Staphylococcus epidermidis. The findings of any antimicrobial bacteria is positive for beginning the discovery of new healing agents. Further research involving antibiotic resistance could lead to greater findings around more effective treatment for infections typically caused by resistant microorganisms.
