Algoritmo preventivo para la detección temprana de enfermedad de Chagas en adultos
Chagas disease, which is caused by the protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, is considered an endemic pathology in Latin America that has affected the health of millions of people. The main objective of this article was to develop a preventive algorithm for early diagnosis in adults with this disease in endemic areas, through a complete bibliographic review of updated diagnostic methods. The study focused on parasitological, serological and molecular methods, taking into account their sensitivity, specificity and applicability in clinical situations with limited resources. In addition, the main provinces affected by this pathology were identified in the country, including Manabí, Loja and El Oro. The results of the research indicate that molecular tests such as PCR and LAMP, complemented with serological tools, are highly effective for the early detection of acute Chagas infections. The preventive algorithm that has been developed enhances early diagnosis and guides the timely management of cases, contributing to reducing the chronic complications of Chagas disease. It is also a tool that optimizes local health capacities, taking into account the economic and logistical barriers that exist in endemic areas.
