Abstract. Problem. The article materials include the following questions: the importance of teaching technical disciplines to engineering majors; the choice of methods that provide more competent and deeper knowledge and skills for future engineers; and whether these methods will ensure the modern necessary competencies and competitiveness of specialists. Goal. The purpose of the article is to conduct special researches that allow the development of the correct systems and teaching methods and to select from a large flow of modern information the knowledge that is very important for students of engineering specialties. The correct assessment of previously acquired knowledge makes it possible to choose the most essential information that the teacher should provide to students in order to form stable knowledge in them; for this, it is necessary to connect new material with what the student already knows. Methodology. The article discussed teaching methods developed by American scientists. Methods of motivating students to obtain sustainable knowledge and the possibility of strengthening such motivation are also considered. It is also vital to acquire long-term knowledge, which will ensure the high quality of the training of applicants and will be able to significantly raise the level of their training. The phenomenon of "forgetting" and methods of improving the quality of assimilation of new material by students of technical specialties are considered. Results. Methods of teaching the material have a very significant impact on the process of memorization by learners. The article presents the results of experimental studies that were conducted to assess the level of memorization of new material that was taught in the classroom. Different approaches to teaching technical subjects can produce different results. The teacher must constantly improve his methods and select the most effective and useful ones for the assimilation of new knowledge by students.
