The purpose of the article is to analyze the works of contemporary researchers who study the political outlook of V. Lypynskyi and to highlight their key positions on the democratic aspect of his worldview. The methodology of the study is based on the principles of systematicity, scientificity, authorial objectivity and historicism, as well as on the methods of historiographical analysis and synthesis. The scientific novelty lies in the comprehensive analysis of modern scientific works on V. Lypynskyi, which allows to assess the diversity of approaches to the democratic aspect of his political outlook. Conclusions. In the studies of Lypynskyi scholars, three approaches to the democratic aspects of V. Lypynskyi’s worldview can be traced. One group includes researchers (J. Pelensky, S. Fitsyk) who believe that democratic ideas played a significant role in the worldview of the historical figure. They confirm this thesis primarily by expressive democratic statements in the texts of the thinker of that time. Another group consists of scholars who believe that democracy in V. Lypynskyi’s vision differed from the interpretation of representatives of the Ukrainian national movement (I. Hyrych, K. Halushko). It can be concluded that Vyacheslav Kazymyrovych tried to modify Ukrainian democracy by symbiosis with conservative values, which would make it attractive to the right-wing forces in the Ukrainian movement. Some Lypynskyi scholars (V. Potulnytsky, T. Ostashko, I. Perederiy, V. Tomakhiv) believe that V. Lypynskyi’s democracy was a political strategy. He was forced to conceal his true political beliefs in order to ensure the representation of the conservative trend in the all- Ukrainian national movement. Otherwise, he could have been associated with Russian monarchist organizations that were hostile to the Ukrainian national movement, and he would not have been able to continue his social and political activities. The democratic wrapper of V. Lypynskyi’s political outlook characterized his flexibility and ability to compromise in achieving the goal of gaining Ukrainian independence. Despite recognizing the democratic nature of the Ukrainian national movement, he did not consider himself part of the democratic camp of Ukrainian forces and had to take into account the political situation of the time. The researchers emphasize that the politician remained a supporter of conservative values under any circumstances and never considered himself a sincere democrat.

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to analyze the works of contemporary researchers who study the political outlook of V. Lypynskyi and to highlight their key positions on the democratic aspect of his worldview. The methodology of the study is based on the principles of systematicity, scientificity, authorial objectivity and historicism, as well as on the methods of historiographical analysis and synthesis. The scientific novelty lies in the comprehensive analysis of modern scientific works on V.
