Verona urbs picta. Le facciate rinascimentali affrescate con finta architettura e il loro rapporto con lo spazio urbano
Verona is often referred to as a painted city due to the presence of numerous frescoed facades in its historical center. In the late 15th century, the city underwent some urban modifications, which resulted in the facades of houses being uniform, free of porticoes and so more noticeable. During the Renaissance, the architecture painted on the frontages expresses the values of the return to the past and the desire to transform the space perceived through painting. Moreover, they testi- mony artistic influences between different cities such as Trent and Rome.
