Un Estudio Comparativo sobre la Influencia de las Redes Sociales en la Lectoescritura en Estudiantes de un Colegio Técnico Profesional de los Niveles Octavo y Undécimo

This study examines the influence of social networks on the literacy of eighth and eleventh grade students at the Mercedes Norte Professional Technical School (CTPMN) in Costa Rica. Through a qualitative and phenomenological approach, questionnaires, observations and interviews were applied to students to analyze their reading and writing habits. The findings indicate that frequent use of social networks, such as Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and TikTok, impacts spelling, textual coherence and reading comprehension. Although students prefer reading in physical format, digital consumption is predominant. Likewise, a resistance to manual writing and widespread use of abbreviations and informal structures was observed. It is concluded that it is necessary to implement pedagogical strategies that integrate the use of social networks in the teaching of literacy, promoting a balance between technology and linguistic development.
