Tourism and territories: a multilevel analysis in Italy
This study examines the factors influencing domestic and foreign tourist presence in Italian municipalities using a multilevel mixed-effects model. Key factors include municipality type, number of accommodations, local services, and cultural and natural attractions. Results show that coastal and historical towns attract the most tourists, while mountain and hill localities are less appealing. The availability of accommodations and cultural heritage plays a significant role, especially for foreign tourists. These findings highlight the importance of tailored strategies to enhance tourism competitiveness.
