Digitalization has impacted students' screen use, significantly influencing their daily lives and potentially jeopardizing their academic performance and overall success in school. This study introduces new challenges for school counselors and other professionals within the school context. This study examines school counselors' experiences with middle school students screen use, aiming to understand how it affects their cognitive, social, and emotional development and to identify strategies used to address these challenges. A qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews were conducted with eight school counselors from primary and middle schools. The analysis revealed that excessive screen use negatively impacts students’ concentration, fosters social isolation, and increases stress and peer conflicts. To mitigate these issues, schools have implemented strategies such as mobile phone bans, individual counseling, group interventions, and school-wide activities like themed days. Max Weber’s professional theory was applied to analyze how school counselors balance formal organizational demands with ethical considerations while collaborating with colleagues and parents. The findings highlight the essential role of school counselors in promoting students’ well-being and underscore the need for coordinated efforts within the school organization to address these challenges effectively.
