Reflexiones metodológicas del trabajo etnográfico en contextos hospitalarios de México
Ethnographic research in healthcare institutions involve many challenges, not only theoretical but also methodological: travel to the site to observe situated interactions, cultivate relations of dialogue, and study every day activities of healthcare personnel over a sustained period of time. The aim of this work is to develop a critical reflectivity regarding ethnographic research in healthcare institutions in Mexico, highlighting key dilemmas that arise during fieldwork. We, the authors, adopt a reflective stance in which we recognize our own subjectivity as observers-researchers, our engagement in the social environment as a subject, and consequently, our influence on the development of the research and the information gathered. During the planning stage, the most appropriate strategies are selected to meet the objectives of research. Nevertheless, during fieldwork, frictions inherent to the dynamics of health institutions become visible, which can hinder or limit the execution of the chosen methodological strategies. This can also be opportunities for making adjustments to enhance the quality and accuracy of the ethnography.
