Padronização de questionário para estudo da epidemiologia da cólica equina
Equine colic is one of the biggest concerns for owners, causing harm to animal welfare. It is among the mostcommon conditions in this species, having a major impact on horse breeding. In most cases, the pain is caused by conditions of the gastrointestinal system, which are often difficult to diagnose in a clinical setting. Given the consequences of acute abdomen, the best approach is undoubtedly prevention, and to achieve this, it is necessary to know and elucidate the possible risk factors for its occurrence. Therefore, the objective of this study was to standardize an epidemiological questionnaire to elucidate the potential risks and protection of equine colic in different breeding systems and geographic regions. Initially, a literature review on the subject was carried out and, later, in conjunction with several professionals in the area, the questions were developed and improved, involving data on the property, horse feeding, water, habitat, pastures, animal health and, finally, cases of colic. The questionnaire developed has 62 questions that can be applied in practice. It will allow the definition of risk factors and, therefore, the generation of information for owners and professionals in the equestrian area, helping in the prevention of equine colic.
