På plats eller på distans : Arbetsformer och deras inverkan på konsumtion
Working remotely has become increasingly common in the wake of the Covid pandemic. Some questions are raised about how this affects individuals' everyday behaviors, including purchasing behaviors. The study aims to investigate how an individual's buying behavior, focusing on thoughts about a purchase, is affected by the increased degree of remote work. To investigate this, the five stages of the decision-making process (need discovery, information search, evaluation of alternatives, purchase decision and post-purchase behavior) and Construal Level Theory (CLT) are used, i.e. how the level of abstraction in the individual's thinking is affected by different psychological distances. The data for the study was collected through a quantitative questionnaire survey where the respondents' level of abstraction for each step in the decision-making process was analyzed using a binary logistic regression. The results showed that no statistically significant relationships between the degree of remote work and the level of abstraction could be found in any of the five steps of the decision-making process, but some tendencies towards relationships could be discerned. Statistical significance for the control variable salary could be identified in the post-purchase behavior. The study shows that remote work itself is not a determining factor in purchasing behavior. However, possible correlations with other factors could be identified, which lays the foundation for future research into the influence of other factors.
