¿Para quién es ornamental el corazón? Cursilerías y otros desbordamientos sentimentales en la poesía de Berta García Faet
This paper aims to contribute to an ongoing discussion on the poetic and political use of “cursilería” in the poetry of Berta García Faet. Divided into two parts, it first offers a contextual background on the poet’s work and, second, presents a historical and theoretical overview of the concept of cursi, with the aim of developing a counter-critique to another recently published article. It argues that the category of “cursi” is central to understanding her poetry. The conscious and political use of gender norms, stereotypes, and clichés related to femininity is crucial, and alternative terms like “ligereza” prove either insufficient or inaccurate for approaching these poetics.
