Läsundervisning: nyckelstrategier i läsning av skönlitteratur

Fiction reading plays a pivotal role in language acquisition by improving reading comprehension and fostering critical thinking. Despite its educational significance, the Swedish national tests suggest that many pupils lack basic reading comprehension skills, therefore it affects their motivation to read and their overall academic performance. This study investigates the benefits of reading fiction, the existing challenges and four teachers’ view of the benefits of reading strategies. The findings reveal that although fiction reading offers many benefits, some pupils face challenges such as low motivation and comprehension difficulties. Without effective reading strategies, many pupils will experience reading overwhelmingly and disengaged, therefore teachers emphasize the importance of structured reading instruction to improve comprehension and sustain engagement. By employing semistructured interviews and lesson plan analysis, this research investigates what four teachers believe are the benefits and challenges of reading fiction, as well as what strategies are used by them to improve reading comprehension and motivation. Ultimately, this research underscores the importance of utilizing fiction reading in teaching and various reading strategies to overcome these challenges.
