La Psiconeuroendocrinoinmunología: Un Puente para una Medicina y Psicología Unificada. Revisión Narrativa-Integrativa
This article explores the fundamentals, clinical applications, and integrative potential of Psychoneuroendocrinoimmunology (PNEI) as a bridge between medicine and psychology, highlighting its impact on the understanding of the health-disease process. A narrative-integrative review was conducted using sources from Web of Science, PubMed, PsycINFO, and Scopus. Fifty relevant studies were selected and analyzed based on rigorous inclusion and exclusion criteria, assessing their quality, variability, and methodological validity. The findings indicate that PNEI provides insight into the bidirectional interactions between the psyche and the nervous, endocrine, and immune systems. Its biological foundations explain the influence of stress and emotions on endocrine-immune functions, with implications for autoimmune, oncological, and psychiatric disorders. Additionally, its therapeutic applications and role in consolidating a biopsychosocial approach that fosters a holistic view of health are emphasized. PNEI offers a promising framework for overcoming the mind-body dichotomy, which persists despite growing scientific evidence, and advancing toward an effective integration between medicine and psychology. However, challenges remain regarding research and clinical application. The need to incorporate its principles into the education and practice of healthcare professionals is emphasized to optimize the management of various pathologies.
