Kartläggning av utvecklingsprocessen för förpackningskoncept : Nuvarande arbetssätt och framtida rekommendationer
This master’s thesis was conducted at Scania Södertälje, a part of the Scania Group focusing on truck production and logistics. Challenges have been identified in the development of packaging concepts across four different production units. Currently, variations in packaging processes, inconsistent standards, and insufficient collaboration among stakeholders lead to inefficiencies and missed opportunities to achieve Scania’s sustainability goals. The absence of a standardised approach complicates the optimisation of logistical operations and environmental performance. Scania has expressed a need to improve the packaging development process by identifying a standardised method, based on best practices, that can be applied across all production units. The purpose of this study was to contribute to a better understanding of the development of efficient and sustainable packaging concepts within the automotive industry. This was achieved by fulfilling three objectives: identifying stakeholders and their roles in creating logistical requirements for packaging concepts, analysing variations in current practices across production units, and proposing a standardised process. Data and information for the study were collected through literature reviews, interviews, observations, and process mapping. The analysis led to several conclusions. First, early involvement of stakeholders and iterative feedback loops are critical to ensuring that packaging concepts are aligned with logistical and sustainability goals. Second, standardising workflows between production units helps to reduce inefficiencies and promote collaboration. It is recommended that Scania implements a unified packaging development process that includes clearly defined roles and standardised workflows. Furthermore, the process should be optimised to address future challenges and further developed by integrating tools for continuous feedback and improvement.
