Klimatångest på olika villkor? : En kvantitativ studie om klimatångest bland unga vuxna

As climate change has become a global challenge, research on climate anxiety has emerged in recent years. Research indicates that climate anxiety is a growing global phenomenon affecting an increasing number of people. The aim of this thesis is to examine the extent to which young adults in Sweden experience climate anxiety and how this relates to gender and socioeconomic status. The study also aims to analyze how these factors influence young adults’ propensity to engage in environmental practices. The study was conducted using a quantitative survey combined with a survey experiment, in which different types of stimuli were tested in relation to climate anxiety and pro-environmental engagement. Correlation analyses and multiple regression analyses were applied to examine associations between gender, age, income, level of education, climate anxiety, and pro-environmental engagement. The results show that climate anxiety is a strong and significant predictor of pro-environmental engagement. Education level showed a positive association with both climate anxiety, while other variables displayed weaker or non-significant effects. The experiment revealed no statistically significant differences between the groups. These findings suggest that social factors may influence climate anxiety and pro-environmental engagement. Future studies should replicate the study with a larger sample and examine additional variables that may influence climate anxiety and pro-environmental engagement.
