Kripto Para Literatürünün Bibliyometrik Analizi: Web of Science Veri Tabanı Üzerine Bir İnceleme
ABSTRACTIn recent years, with the rapid developments in information and communication technologies, cryptocurrencies have emerged as a revolutionary innovation in the financial system, sparking significant debate at both economic and societal levels. Different cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin offer significant advantages over traditional financial systems, particularly in cross-border transactions, due to their ability to facilitate fast transactions, eliminate intermediaries, reduce costs, operate through smart contracts, and align with technological infrastructure. However, their decentralized nature can lead to regulatory gaps and facilitate illegal activities. In response, countries have implemented varying regulations to mitigate these risks, which in turn affect market stability. Bibliometric analysis is a method used to understand the productivity of scientific publications and the flow of information, facilitating the tracking of academic trends through the visualization of quantitative data. The aim of this study is to objectively evaluate the data related to research conducted in the field of cryptocurrencies. The research was conducted using data obtained from the Web of Science database and analyzed through the Vosviewer software. According to the findings, the year with the highest number of publications was 2023, with Shaen Corbet being the most prolific author and Elie Bouri being the most cited. The United States appears as the leading country in terms of publication volume in the field of financial research involving cryptocurrencies. Additionally, when the keywords used in studies on cryptocurrencies are examined, it is seen that terms such as “cryptocurrency”, “Bitcoin”, “Ethereum”, “blockchain” and “security” are frequently used.
