Introducción de la vacuna antivariólica en la Nueva España y las Provincias Internas antes de la Real Expedición de la Vacuna
In this text, the itinerary of the transmission chains of the cowpox virus that began in Puerto Rico at the end of 1803 is reconstructed, which allowed the smallpox vaccine to be introduced into New Spain and the Internal Provinces before the Royal Philanthropic Vaccine Expedition could do so. Additionally, the agents of propagation —doctors, authorities, officials— and the institutions that participated in this process are analyzed, highlighting the particularities it had in the northern region of New Spain.
