Inhibidores del cotransportador sodio-glucosa tipo 2 en la diabetes mellitus tipo 2 en adultos
The iSGLT2s have transformed the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2) by providing advantages in glucose control, including prevention of cardiac and renal conditions. These drugs reduce major cardiovascular events, hospitalizations for heart failure and progression of chronic kidney disease, in addition to significantly lowering glycosylated hemoglobin levels (Thomas & Cherney, 2018). Their insulin-independent action is especially advantageous in patients with insulin resistance (Thomas & Cherney, 2018). However, their implementation faces challenges such as genitourinary infections, diabetic ketoacidosis and economic barriers that limit their accessibility (Nouel et al., 2022.; Scheen, 2020). Despite these limitations, iSGLT2 represent a significant therapeutic advance. The adoption of multidisciplinary strategies and the development of complementary technologies could optimize their use, consolidating them as a standard of care for DM2 in adults.
