Impacto de los Salarios en los Diferentes Tipos de Ocupación en México

The objective of this article is to analyze the impact of occupation type on average wages in Mexico. ANOVA tests were performed to identify statistically significant differences between the wages of professionals and technicians; civil servants, directors, and managers; and salespeople, sales employees, and sales agents. Cointegration tests were also performed to determine whether there is a long-term relationship between different occupational groups—such as professionals, technicians, salespeople, and sales agents—and wage levels in Mexico. The results of the ANOVA tests indicate that wages between professionals and technicians and salespeople, salespeople, and sales agents are statistically different, as are civil servants, directors, and managers, and salespeople, salespeople, and sales agents. The cointegration tests indicate that, except for professionals and technicians and salespeople and salespeople, no occupational type exhibits cointegration with its wages. It is concluded that there are differences in wages across occupations, but that there is no cointegration between occupation and wage. Therefore, the differences between wages are due to other characteristics.
