Impacto de medicamentos sistêmicos utilizados no tratamento da COVID longa na saúde oral: implicações para a prática em saúde– revisão de literatura
The relationship between systemic medications and oral health is a crucial field of study for healthcare practice, given the interdependence between systemic conditions and oral manifestations. This study aims to systematically review the literature to understand the impact of systemic medications on oral health, with a particular focus on Long COVID treatment. A total of 22 articles were selected from PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Science Direct, SciELO, and Ovid databases using descriptors such as "systemic medications," "oral health," "adverse effects," and "Long COVID." The review followed PRISMA guidelines, applying strict inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results indicate that corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, and antidepressants can cause xerostomia, gingival hyperplasia, and osteonecrosis of the jaws, negatively affecting patients' oral health. It is concluded that the integration of healthcare professionals, continuous patient education, and the development of specific public policies are essential to optimizing clinical outcomes and improving the quality of life of individuals affected by Long COVID.
