Graphic design and storytelling as a tool for enhanced transparency within food production chain
The following thesis aims to explore whether using graphic design and storytelling can enhance the trust among consumers when it comes to authenticity and transparency of food products, specifically connected to the European Union’s introduction of the Digital Product Passport (DPP). Using a Research through Design methodology combined with reflective practice, a digital solution was developed to communicate product origin from farm to table in an engaging and user-friendly way. This is the main outcome of the design project, with further results indicating that authentic storytelling, when balanced with intuitive design, can serve as a bridge between complex information and consumer trust. While storytelling can enhance trust and engagement, its emotional impact relies on human-centered narratives. Ultimately, the project highlights the importance of combining user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) design principles with narrative strategies in order to create emotional engagement among users.
