El Monumento a las Víctimas de Ribadelago: un episodio más de traslados y resignificación patrimonial
In 1959, with the bursting of the Vega de Tera dam, one of the greatest hydraulic catastrophes occurred in Spain, causing the disappearance of the small village of Ribadelago (Galende) and a very high number of deaths and missing persons. After the catastrophe, the authorities undertook the creation of a new town, where they installed a monument in memory of the victims. After rejecting the first of the memorials erected, they opted to move the facade of the church of the old town, heavily damaged in the disaster, to the new space using the same methodology that was applied in the monumental buildings and made it the main heritage element of the town.
