Diagnóstico de Disglucemia Mediante la Prueba de Tolerancia a la Glucosa Oral de una Hora

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a very prevalent disease; its early diagnosis allows to prevent cardiometabolic complications. Recently, the one-hour oral glucose tolerance test (oPTG) has been proposed as a more sensitive method for diagnosing dysglycemia. Objective: To determine the efficacy of one-hour oPTG for the diagnosis of dysglycemia. Methodology: 90 patients with risk of diabetes and fasting blood glucose less than 120 mg/dl, age 18-72 years, were studied. The oPTG was performed with 75 g of anhydrous glucose, measuring fasting blood glucose one hour and two hours after overload. A proportional analysis with confidence intervals was performed to determine the efficacy of 1-hour oPTG. Results: Proportional analysis with confidence intervals shows that the one-hour oral glucose tolerance test (RESULT. 1HR) detects more positive cases (22.22%) compared to the baseline measurement (RESULT. BASAL, 15.56%) and measurement at two hours (RESULT. 2HR, 13.33%). Conclusions: The one-hour oPTG diagnosed more patients with dysglycemia than the two-hour test, but more studies are required to confirm its superiority.
