Disponibilidad de Boro en Suelos del Sureste de la Región Oriental del Paraguay.
Boron (B) is an essential micronutrient for plant growth and development. Few studies have been conducted in Paraguay on this nutrient in soils, so understanding its availability and distribution is important. To evaluate and classify B availability in soils in the departments of Alto Paraná, Caaguazú, Canindeyú, and Itapúa at the district level, a database was created with the results of soil analyses from the FCA-UNA and FUCAI-UCA laboratories. Available B concentrations in soils were classified as high (>0.6 mg kg-1); medium (0.6-0.2 mg kg-1), and low (<0.2 mg kg-1), generating a B availability map at the district level. Considering the average B levels at the district level, of the 87 districts that make up the four departments, 83% (72 districts) had a medium level, 7% (6 districts) had a low level, and 10 districts had no data. Of the 7,890 samples, 7% had a high level of B, 74% had a medium level of B, and 19% had a low level of B. The overall average considering the 7,890 soil samples was 0.30 mg kg-1 of B; therefore, 93% of the soils analyzed had B levels below the critical level (0.60 mg kg-1) for agricultural, fodder, and forestry production activities.
