Design that reduces food waste
In today's society, we dispose of about a third of all the food produced, fully edible, nourishment-rich food that could have fed hundreds of thousands of people, which usually goes straight down the drain. Food waste is a multifaceted problem that at first glance appears less complex than it actually is. Sustainability is among the most discussed topics today, but in order to do more than just talk about it, we need to be actively developing solutions to sustainability issues. Food waste is responsible for enormous greenhouse gas emissions, both during production and while decaying as waste. Food waste is when fully edible food is thrown away for a variety of reasons and is transformed into waste that needs to be disposed of. This graduate project explores how we can create a better understanding of the underlying causes of why food waste takes place, with the help of design. While also developing a potential solution to food waste at home with the help of design.
