Desbiologização da Paternidade

Parenthood itself is not a fact of nature but a cultural deed. Though sexual intercourse, from which pregnancy could result, is a source of civil responsibility, parenthood as such stems only from a spontaneous decision. Both histori-cal evidence and analysis of present trends point out that parenthood consists in service and love rather than in procreation. The latest changes undergone by the family, no more a unit of eco-nomic, social and religious character, nay, basi-cally a group of affection and companionship, have contributed considerably to the ebb of par-enthood seen from a biological point of view. On account of its elective contents, adoption is the forerunner of parenthood as it will be tomorrow – essentially rooted in the idea of freedom.
