Datatillförlitlighet i övervakning av stadstrafik : En jämförande studie av deltagarbaserad sensorik jämfört med motorvägskontrollsystem

Technological advancements in sensor technology and the proliferation of smart devices have enabled the use of these devices for data collection, a concept known as participatory sensing. This method is widely employed to track traffic information in various navigation services. However, previous research has highlighted vulnerabilities in these systems, demonstrating that they can be exploited through Sybil-based attacks. This study aimed to evaluate the reliability of participatory sensing as a method for measuring traffic. To achieve this, we created a dataset of traffic measurements from road sensors owned by the Swedish Transport Administration along a major motorway outside Stockholm, Sweden. This data was used as the ground truth and then compared to data from three different traffic data providers that use participatory sensing (HERE, TomTom, and Bing Maps) in order to compare reported route travel times. Our analysis revealed a high correlation between the data from the participatory sensing providers and the Swedish Transport Administration with a correlation coefficient reaching up to ∼0.98. Additionally, we found that the correlation increased with the length of the routes, with Bing Maps data showing the closest alignment to that of the Swedish Transport Administration. The dataset and findings presented in this paper can contribute to future research in traffic data collection methods and in securing participatory sensing systems.
