Concept development for new layoutfor driving trainer

When personnel are to be trained to drive combat vehicles 90, the turret is replaced with a driving trainer where the instructor can sit and steer with dual command. The project involves updating the layout of the driving trainer to improve visibility and be able to weight up the driving trainer 3000kg with the center of gravity maintained and cope with a rollover accident. In the concept generation phase, three concepts were developed where the focus was on different requirements, one with improved forward visibility, one with better handling of rollover accidents and one that improves visibility near the vehicle all around, where the middle one was chosen for further development. During the further development phase, the concept was refined by enlarging the windows and placing a large escape window at the back of the driving trainer, and the walls were adjusted so that there are pockets where weights can be installed. To evaluate the new driving trainer, tests were conducted to check that the center of gravity is approved and compared FEM analyses and tests for field of vision with the current driving trainer. The final concept was a hut which fullfills all the requirements and has an improved field of vision and can withstand a roll-over without endenger the inside personnel.
