Challenges and perspectives for the analysis of corroded pipelines
Corrosion is one of the main degradation mechanisms that affect the use of pipelines to transport oil and gas efficiently. Therefore, this work provides a review of the study of art on corroded pipelines, focusing on the evaluation of recent approaches, identifying trends and applied methods. To this end, a study was carried out over the last thirteen years on corroded pipelines. Thus, it was possible to identify gaps in the literature such as: the generation of new defects and interactive defects need to be considered in the risk analysis; the impact that the use of this coating may have on the integrity of corroded pipelines; the influence of the mechanical properties of aged steel on the burst pressure; errors in measurement in inspection should be included in the reliability analysis; consider the effect of inflation to calculate the consequences of failure; assess the risk of operating offshore pipelines, as well as assess the reliability of thick pipelines with high-strength materials; and the development of robust tools to manage risk within acceptable limits. Finally, this study is extremely important for researchers and pipeline operators, as it presents relevant contributions to making the management of corroded pipelines more robust and realistic.
