Chaturbate: el espectáculo corporal como mercancía: una lectura desde Guy Debord

Guy Debord 's contribution to social debate is inevitably linked to The Society of the Spectacle (1967), one of the critical theories utilized for debating contemporary social issues. Debord´s theory is not reduced to a Marxist standpoint of capitalist societies. Rather, it is a way to understand the world governed by the fetishism of images, which became merchandise as a consequence of media illusion and cultural alienation. This essayistic study is divided into two parts. The first is a historical journey on the concept of spectacle in order to contextualize it within the economy and media policy. In view of this, the spectacle is pondered through pornography as a theoretical scenario, since it allows for the (re)creation of sexual desires within capitalism. The second part describes the Chaturbate page that contains the latest pornographic productions. This page not only reveals pornography as an objectification of the body, but also as a diffusion and a visual consumption. Besides, it criticizes the traditional forms of pornography, and places us in a post-pornography that develops a less accusatory, but more critical view of contemporary sexuality.
