The constant pursuit of cybersecurity : A study of the challenges and opportunities of cybersecurity strategies in a changing threat landscape

This study examines current cybersecurity strategies and how they can be adapted to counter the expanding threat landscape of cyberattacks. Using a qualitative method with semi-structured interviews of professionals in the cybersecurity industry, the empirical data is analyzed based on the theoretical framework of Technology Threat Avoidance Theory (TTAT) (Liang och Xue, 2009). The findings reveal that threat assessments may vary depending on the type of organization. They also show that mitigation strategies such as network segmentation, multi-factor authentication, and access control are consistently employed and considered key factors for a secure information infrastructure. Additionally, non-technical solutions, including organizational and human factors, play a crucial role in cybersecurity efforts, where increased awareness is described as critical. The study also highlights future prospects, particularly concerning AI and cloud services, and identifies challenges related to implementation and continuous adaptation of cybersecurity strategies.
