Avaliação de índices reprodutivos de ovinos criados em propriedades rurais de Guarapuava-PR e região

This project aimed to monitor sheep farming properties in the city of Guarapuava -PR and surrounding region, with the support of a veterinarian responsible for the animals' reproductive management. The study aimed to assess the reproductive indices of these herds, including birth rates, weaning rates, conception rates, and pregnancy rates. Ini-tially, visits were made to select properties with zootechnical records, allowing for the calculation of these rates. The results obtained for the birth rate were: 123%, 118.64%, 126.37%, 115.38%, and 135.29% for properties A, B, C, D, and E, respectively. The weaning rate varied between 86.95% and 100%, with the following results: 88.23%, 94.28%, 92%, 100%, and 86.95%. Regarding conception rates, a significant variation was observed between properties: 62.5% in property A, 74.68% in B, 100% in C, 54.16% in D, and 77.27% in E. The pregnancy rate also showed similar variations, with results of 62.5%, 74.68%, 100%, 36.11%, and 77.27%, respectively. These results revealed a com-plex and diverse picture of reproductive success in the herds, indicating the influence of various factors such as management, genetics, and environment. Understanding these var-iations helps in the implementation of more effective management strategies, aiming to improve reproductive efficiency in local sheep herds.
