Azerbaycan Türkçesi Söz Varlığında Din Perspektifiyle Oluşturulan Atasözü ve Deyimler
Proverbs and idioms are expressions that act as bridges, transmitting the accumulated vocabulary and cultural memory of a language from one generation to the next. Nations develop their cultures over time, shaped by the conditions of their era and influenced by interactions with other societies due to geographical proximity. The nomadic lifestyle of the Turks enabled contact with various communities, allowing them to accumulate a rich cultural heritage. As a result of their mobile way of life and warrior spirit, a patriarchal structure became dominant in Turkish society. In a culture where respect for elders is deeply rooted, the words of older individuals, regarded as "ancestors," are considered valuable advice by the younger generation. The term "proverb" itself reflects this understanding. While the wording of these expressions may change over time, their core messages remain intact. Turkish culture, known for its humor and emotional depth, has enriched the language, particularly through idioms. Idioms, often metaphorical in nature, help make advice or complex ideas easier to understand and more engaging. This characteristic is common across Turkic dialects. Azerbaijani Turkish, the focus of this study, also features frequent use of proverbs and idioms. This research identifies religion-based expressions found in Azerbaijani proverbs and idioms, explains their meanings, and compares them to their equivalents in Turkey Turkish. The expressions are categorized and analyzed according to their positive or negative connotations.
