Abstract. Currently, the world is undergoing another energy transition in the direction of 5D (Decarbonization, Decentralization, Digitalization, Deregulation and Democratization). A new vision of the Energy System "From the Consumer" or "Focus on the Consumer" is being formed. Ukraine's accession to the Energy Community of South-East Europe in 2011 initiated new principles for the construction and functioning of the energy sector, in particular the electricity sector. The phased implementation of energy packages gradually changed the model of the electricity market, which significantly affected the composition of market participants, their functions, responsibilities and capabilities. Electricity consumers also became part of these changes. Over almost a decade of transformation, their role and significance in the electric power industry have moved to a qualitatively new level - from passive elements of the system, they have become active participants who have the opportunity to participate in the formation, management, and maintenance of regimes and processes in the energy sector. The article presents an updated classification of electric energy consumers, reflecting modern trends in the development of the electric power industry. The place and role of the consumer in the electric power market are shown. The existing economic incentives for consumers that form the corresponding models of their behavior are considered.
