α-Nitroalkyl Radical-Mediated Cross-Nucleophile Coupling of Nitroalkanes with Aryl Boronic Acids and Esters

We describe an efficient and practical method for the α-nitroalkyl radical-mediated cross-nucleophile coupling of secondary nitroalkanes with aryl boronic acids and esters. This method provides direct access to α-aryl nitroalkanes, which are valuable building blocks in pharmaceutical and materials sciences. The optimized reaction conditions allow for selective product formation with broad functional group tolerance and high efficiency, highlighting the reaction’s versatility and robustness in synthesizing diverse nitroaryl frameworks. Mechanistic studies using NMR spectroscopy, cyclic voltammetry (CV), and density functional theory (DFT) calculations are planned to further elucidate the α-nitroalkyl radical-mediated reaction pathway. This research aims to establish cross-nucleophile coupling of nitroalkanes as a powerful tool in modern organic synthesis, offering new strategies for the streamlined assembly of biologically and industrially relevant molecules.
