IMPACT OF COMMERCIAL AND NON-COMMERCIAL FLIGHTS ON ROMANIAN AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION: A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

The airport transportation evolved in a significant manner in the last years, attracting funds for improving existing systems and developing new solutions. Thanks to the technological evolution and the cost reduction for the flights, there are new routes available which increased the frequency of flights. The airport connectivity performance is strongly correlated with economic benefits. The current logistic and transportation market is estimated at over 6.7 billion euros. On the same time, the domain is very sensible to external factors, which could affect the entire activity, resulting to global financial issues, one of the best examples are the Global Financial Crisis from 2008, the COVID-19 pandemic or terrorism. The process of recover from such an important event it takes a lot of time and money, and in some cases the companies are not able to recover anymore due to the lack of funds. The purpose of the research is to explore the existing scientific articles related to airport transportation domain and to investigate what can be implemented in Romania to extend the actual system. Based on the yearly extracted data on airport transportation area, starting with 1999 until 2023, an exploratory analysis will be performed using Python programming language, in order to understand the trends regarding multiple types of flights, number of passengers, commercial and cargo flights.
