FLIPPED CLASSROOM IMPLEMENTATION FOR SEMESTER l SESSION 2023/2024 FOR KNR 2433 ELECTROMAGNETIC THEORY COURSE-THE BEGINNING
Electromagnetics Theory (EMT) is widely considered as a very difficult course, and students often get lost at the beginning towards the end of the course. Thus, this leads to higher failure rates. In our University, this course is a core course taught to second year students for Bachelor Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering, named KNR 2433 Electromagnetic Theory. To understand this course very well, students must have strong background of Engineering Mathematics. Students with poor backgrounds in Engineering Mathematics tend to face difficulties in understanding not only the basic concept in EMT but the rest of the course. This leads to low interest in this course and resulted low marks at the end of the semester. Overall, the course is being divided into 30% of Assignments, 20% of Tests and 50% of Final Exam. One way to overcome these challenges is to understand and investigate students’ learning challenges and engaging them with learning skills which include knowledge, critical thinking and generic skills. Then, specific assessment will be given to the students based on their learning styles. Before this, the course is conducted in conventional method, where lecturer will do all the talking. Thus, for Semester 1 Session 2023/2024, students are introduced with flipped classroom method and team-based learning in teaching and learning. Learning Management System (LMS) e-Learning Enrichment and Advancement Platform (eLEAP) is used in delivering the information to students before the real class occurred. Students must participate actively in class to strengthen their understanding in every topic covered in EMT. The analysis of the results is examine in every aspect of assessments which include assignments and test. Since this course is still on-going, the assessment will cover from assignments to test only, the overall performance of the student will be presented later.
