Advancing multi-modelling in MDE for integrated domain and business process modelling
As technology advances, more and more aspects of running a business that were traditionally done manually are now supported by business information systems. These information systems support a wide range of business processes that manipulate business data. However, given the large number of processes, the combined design of business processes, business data and business information system support can quickly become very complex. To manage this complexity and to ensure smooth operation, maintainability and adaptability, it is therefore crucial that an organisation's business information system is based on sound design principles that provide an integrated view of both the data and process perspectives. In order to model a complete business, multiple models must be created to address the different aspects, usually in different modelling languages. These models should be correct independently, but the integration between different models should also be correct and consistent. The main challenge addressed in this dissertation is the integrated modelling and design of the data and process perspectives for the purpose of the model-driven engineering and generation of code to create a supporting business information system.
