The conceptual approaches of a number of scientists to the interpretation of the concept of "sustainable development" are considered and the essence of its constituent concepts "sustainable" and "development" is defined. Certain contradictions in the combination of these concepts in the phrase "sustainable development" are revealed, since, according to some scientists, this phrase is not quite correct. The opinions of a number of scientists regarding both the possibility and the inappropriateness of combining these concepts in the phrase "sustainable development" are analyzed. The alternatives to the concept of "sustainable development" proposed by a number of scientists are characterized, and the possibility of their use is analyzed. As a result of the analysis of various approaches to the interpretation of the concept of "sustainable development" and the theoretical substantiation of its essence, the lack of alternatives to this concept and the expediency of its use are revealed. The components of sustainable development are characterized and the leading role of the economic component in the triad: economy, social sphere, ecology is revealed. The system of sustainable development goals is considered, which, in the context of the deepening of military conflicts, necessitates its supplementation with a security component, based on the fact that the basis of sustainable development is the human right to life and development. The vector interpretation of the sustainable development of socio-economic systems and the formation of an appropriate strategy depending on their economic and technological profile are considered. The conditions for the effective implementation of sustainable development goals are determined, which can be ensured by the harmonization of its components: economic, social and environmental, the pace of development of which is determined by the corresponding priorities of socio-economic systems of a certain level and their investment opportunities.
