Soil care relations. Remakings at an agricultural plot
As human-soil relations of care and soil ontologies are entangled, modes of caring affect what soils become. When repairing soil, it is therefore fruitful to explore what the soil can tell about actions, processes, and (wrong)doings across space and time. The chapter weaves an ethnography of soil-care relations with anthropogenic soil through a plot that, after being used for generations in pesticide-driven industrial agriculture, was taken out of production to protect the drinking water from contamination and handed over to a citizens’ organisation to transition the depleted soil to a biodiverse plot. While exploring ways of listening to the soil and figuring out how humans may assist biodiverse processes, the research sketched myriad entanglements in relation to the plot and the soil.
