Northernmost record of Stenogobius ophthalmoporus from the Shinkawa River in Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, Japan
A single specimen (44.0 mm in standard length) of an estuarine goby, Stenogobius ophthalmoporus (Bleeker, 1853) (Gobiidae: Oxudercinae), was collected from the Shinkawa River, Kochi City, Kochi Prefecture, mainland Japan. Because the distributional records of S. ophthalmoporus in Japanese waters have been limited to Okinawa Prefecture (Okinawa and Ishigaki islands), the present specimen represents the first record of the species from Kochi Prefecture and the northernmost record for the species.
