My Contribution to the Future of Medicine
A soil sample was collected from the front yard of a home near a tree in Olathe, KS. The goal of collecting a soil sample is to find new antimicrobials and possible antibiotics. A piece of the soil sample collected was vortexed in a tube of water to complete a Serial Dilution, and the tube samples were put onto Agar Plates. The candidate colonies were placed in various Screening Plates, testing their ability to resist the safe relevtives of ESKAPE Pathogens. A couple of the colonies were observed to have zones of inhibition, a breakthrough in finding a possible antibiotic. Metabolictesting, PCR, and Gel electrophoresis are the experimental methods used to determine the identity of the antibacterial candidate.
