Les changements dans les attentes sociales et culturelles autour du mariage à l’ère de la science : Cas du peuple Guidar au Nord-Cameroun
Summary Changes in social and cultural expectations around marriage in the age of science, are a topic to study in anthropology that focuses on the impact of scientific advances, on marriage norms and practices. Researchers examine how scientific knowledge, particularly in the fields of genetics, medicine and technological advances, is changing expectations and behaviors related to marriage. In Guidar culture, marriage is not only a commitment between two individuals, but also between two families or even the entire community, since marriage falls within the social cultural domain. We therefore get married according to the principles linked to the Guidar culture. They are attached to their tradition and values that they do not want to break away from. Except that with the advent of technological advances openness to other cultures, formal education, we see a change in the process of entering into a union among the Guidar. They also study how these changes impact family structures, gender roles and interpersonal relationships. This research offers insight into the ways in which, science shapes and transforms traditional notions of marriage in different cultures around the world, and particularly among the Guidar of Northern Cameroon. It is therefore a question, based on observations and interviews, in the light of Balandier’s dynamic theory (1981), to show the impact of technological advances on the process of entering into marriage and even on the daily experience of the marriage to the Guidars.
