First record of Epinephelus miliaris (Valenciennes, 1830) from Miyako-jima island, Okinawa Prefecture, Japan
A single specimen (263.1 mm in standard length) of Epinephelus miliaris (Valenciennes, 1830), a species of Epinephelidae, was collected from off Miyako-jima island, Ryukyu Islands, Japan. This species is widely distributed in the Indo-West Pacific region, ranging from east Africa to Samoa and southern Japan. In Japanese waters, the species has previously been recorded from Okinawa-jima, Ishigaki-jima, and Iriomote-jima islands in Okinawa Prefecture. The present specimen represents the first record of the species from Miyako-jima island, and fills the gap between Ishigaki-jima and Okinawa-jima islands.
