El Impacto del Modernismo en la Destrucción del Patrimonio Arquitectónico de Ibagué

This reflective article examines the impact of modernism on the architectural heritage of the foundational zone of Ibagué, Tolima department, Colombia. Through a qualitative analysis, the effects of the transition from traditional to modern architecture in the city are explored. The contrast between the drive to adopt contemporary architectural trends and the lack of preservation of the municipal historical legacy is highlighted. This tension between the modern and the traditional raises questions about the loss of cultural identity and the sense of belonging through the built environment. Rapid urbanization and urban development have led to the irreversible loss of architectural structures and public spaces with historical significance, emphasizing the importance of implementing conservation policies and urban planning strategies that balance such interventions and negative impacts while considering the protection of the territorial heritage legacy.
