Dataset for Bayesian Calibration of a Two-Class Population Balance Equation (TCPBE) Flocculation Model: Laboratory and Field Observations
This dataset supports the development and calibration of a mechanistic flocculation–transport model based on a Two-Class Population Balance Equation (TCPBE) framework. The TCPBE explicitly simulates the dynamics of microflocs and macroflocs through aggregation and breakup processes, and is calibrated using Bayesian inference to quantify parameter uncertainty and interdependence. The dataset includes two main components:Origin Project Files (.opju): This folder contains all figures presented in the manuscript, organized as Origin project files created with Origin graphing software. Each
.opju
file includes processed experimental data, model results, and the corresponding publication-quality plots—such as time series of floc size evolution, suspended sediment concentration, and posterior parameter distributions. These files can be used to reproduce or adapt the graphical outputs included in the study.MATLAB Scripts for Bayesian Calibration: This folder contains an example implementation of the Bayesian calibration procedure for the 0D flocculation kinetic test using the TCPBE model. The MATLAB scripts are integrated with the DREAM (DiffeRential Evolution Adaptive Metropolis) software package. The example demonstrates how the TCPBE model can be coupled with DREAM to estimate posterior distributions of model parameters based on observed floc size data.
