Integrating Water Bodies in Disaster Risk Management: Mitigating Water-Related Hazards in the Era of Climate Change
Abstract: Water bodies like rivers, lakes, seas and wetlands play an important role in disaster risk management (DRM) by offering essential resources and also creating serious risks. DRM seeks to mitigate the impacts of water related disasters such as floods, draughts, storm surges, and tsunamis. DRM involves Flood management, mitigation of droughts, measures to prevent coastal areas that are vulnerable to storm surges. Tsunami risk reduction, Pollution management. This paper mainly focuses on the strategies for integrating water bodies into disaster risk management and adaption of the challenges created by context of climate change on water systems and communities
